SS501 members Heo Young Saeng & Kim Kyu Jong showed their support for Kim Hyung Jun as they appeared on stage at his showcase.
To kick off the promotions for his new album ‘ESCAPE‘, Kim Hyung Jun held a showcase & mini concert at AX-Korea in Seoul on June 29th. His fellow SS501 members Heo Young Saeng & Kim Kyu Jong appeared on stage much to the surprise of the fans in attendance. Park Jung Min was reported to be in attendance but he didn’t appear on stage. Because of the numerous Japanese fans in attendance, they had a dedicated Japanese translator on stage.


Kim Hyung Jun’s younger brother Kim Ki Bum was also in attendance.

T-ara persuades CCM to allow them to pursue both music and acting this year

T-ara has changed up their plans for the year due to their strong desire to continue expanding their acting careers.
Core Contents Media had originally asked the girls to focus on their musical activities for the rest of the year and asked to put their acting careers to the back seat for the time being. Determined to pursue both music and acting, the girls were able to persuade CEO Kim Kwang Soo to allow them to schedule for both.
Eunjung was recently confirmed for a role in SBS‘s new weekend drama, ‘Five Fingers‘, while Hyomin will be joining MBC‘s new fantasy sitcom, ‘The First Man‘. In addition, Soyeon will be making her drama debut through ‘Haeundae Lovers‘ on KBS.
Earlier this year, the company stated, “T-ara will be focusing on their album releases, Japanese promotions, and concerts this year.” As of June 29th, however, plans have changed, with representatives explaining, “The members of T-ara personally visited CEO Kim Kwang Soo and persuaded him to change his mind. He was worried about the girls’ busy schedules with their Korean comeback, Japanese promotions, concerts, and fanclub inaugurations, but the girls were very adamant about wanting to do everything they wanted, even if it meant having to squeeze it in an already packed schedule.”
Eunjung, Hyomin, and Soyeon stated, “We’ll show how hard working we are and make sure that we don’t fall behind in our music or acting.”

Wonder Girls to talk about their friendly relationship with Girls’ Generation

On the upcoming episode of TV Chosun‘s ‘Entertainment in TV-the TREND‘, the Wonder Girls who became known as rivals of Girls’ Generation ever since their debut will talk about their surprising friendship with Girls’ Generation.
During the recording for Entertainment in TV-the TREND, Wonder Girls’ member Yenny shared, “Because there are a lot of things we can relate to each other and because we debuted around the same time, we contact each other often. We are so happy to see them whenever we get the chance. We text and call each other often“, confirming the closeness of both girl groups.
Sun also added, “Since we debuted around the same time, we share many similarities and can support each other.”

Jinwoon and Changmin cheer on Jo Kwon for his “I’m Da One” performance

2AM member and now soloist Jo Kwon held his first stage performance yesterday though ‘Music Bank‘ and it seems his fellow group members came to show their support.
Jo Kwon recently shared on Twitter a picture of himself and two of the other 2AM members while writing, “Seulong hyung had to go to a [script] reading for the film ‘26 Years‘, so with Jinwoon and Changmin hyung”.
With Jo Kwon performing “I’m Da One“, Jinwoon and Changmin helped cheer him on by holding up placards that state, “U R DA ONE”.

Busker Busker dominates weekly charts with “If You Really Love Me”

There is no stopping Busker Busker‘s dominance on music charts as they continue to rank high with release after release.
The group revealed their ‘1st Wrap Up Album‘ on June 21st and their title track “If You Really Love Me” has swept real time charts as well as daily charts with the release, and has also now landed itself on the weekly charts as well.
On June 30th, “If You Really Love Me” took 1st place on MelOn, Mnet, Olleh, Naver Music, as well as Monkey3. The other tracks included on the album like “Neon Sign“, “It’s Hard to Face You“, and more were also seen ranked in the top 10 of various chart as well.

Over 7,000 Japanese fans attend ’2012 JYJ Membership Week’ in Korea

Starting June 29th, the members of JYJ opened up their ‘2012 JYJ Membership Week‘ at the SETEC as their first fan service project sponsored by C-JeS Entertainment.
The project took four months of preparation and is chock full of JYJ related content that is accessible by fans who hold JYJ membership, for completely free.
The agency had announced previously that they had invited 7,024 Japanese fans to Korea just for this event. They kept their word and sure enough, the 7,024 fans left Japan on the 28th and 29th through 14 airports to make it to the event on the morning of the 29th. Fans were greeted by pictures, 3D videos, and other various booths upon arrival at the event.
One Japanese fan Utaka Kimie (49) expressed, “It’s an event that can’t be found in Japan. I was really touched by the amount of work that was put into it. I was disappointed because I couldn’t see JYJ as often in Japan so I’m thankful that such an event was created.”
Miyakawa Eri (28) stated, “I was so surprised to hear that everything was free. I feel like I’ve received an extravagant gift. I think I’ll be a fan of JYJ for life.”
CEO Baek Chang Joo also stated, “This exposition is an opportunity not only to put on display the works of JYJ but for fans to experience these things with them. I believe that we were greeted by twice the number of Japanese fans compared to other Hallyu events because the event was free and allowed participation to anyone that had the absolute minimum means.”
He continued, “I feel that there needs to be more variety in Hallyu content now that concerts have already built a foundation for itself. Events such as these create memories for fans, and artists can share their own stories with them.”
JYJ will be holding a fan meet event with the fans at the exposition on the 30th.

As reported previously, MYNAME is set to make their Japanese debut with their upcoming Japanese single ‘Message‘. T-ara responds to the camera mishap during their ‘Music Bank’ performance

On the June 29th broadcast of ‘Music Bank’s half-year wrap up special, T-ara temporarily halted their preparations for their comeback with “Day by Day” to perform their hit song “Lovey Dovey“.
However, their broadcast of their performance did not go off without a hitch as the cameras suddenly cut to a scene of the empty corner stage, leaving the members out of the scene for a split second.
This is not ‘Music Bank’s first camera accident. Earlier this year, Brave Girls also met with a similar accident in which the camera captured the cameramen in floor below the stage. Furthermore, during Wonder Girl‘s comeback stage on June 8th, the camera also suddenly cut away from the members as they were giving their performance.
Fans commented, “I can’t see T-ara“, “”Music Bank’ continues to repeat the same mistakes“, “It’s been a while since I’ve seen T-ara so I am disappointed at ‘Music Bank’“, and “They need to be more cautious from now on“.
However, rather than being disappointed, T-ara and their management responded optimistically. “Before leaving for Japan again, the girls relayed a message of gratitude for the camera directors who worked hard for 12 hours in the midst of tension, and captured the beautiful moments of the girls, and asked them to continue capturing T-ara beautifully for their “Day by Day” stage as well,” said their agency.

‘First generation’ idol Kim E-Z of Baby V.O.X. reveals how idols dated back in the day

“First generation” idol Kim E-Z of Baby V.O.X. will be opening up about anti-fans and secret relationships between idols on the upcoming July 1st broadcast of Story On‘s ‘Lee Seung Yeon and 100 Women‘.
Other first generation idols including S.E.S‘ Shoo and Chakra‘s Lee Eun are also sharing their stories from their groups’ active days.
E-Z, who’s currently a married mother of one, revealed, “[Back in the day, idols would] date by hiding notes in flower pots at television stations or behind clothes hangers that stylists would pull around [on racks].”
She also discussed Baby V.O.X.’s run-ins with anti-fans: “When news of [fellow] member Kan Mi Yeon dating H.O.T‘s Moon Hee Jun spread, anti-fans started to continuously scream ‘[Go away]‘ when we were on stage and a lot of mail would arrive at our dorm with knives in them.”
Also during filming, Shoo revealed that she’s currently cultivating a garden to spend time with her kid, while Lee Eun shared that she’s currently acting as the office head for her father-in-law’s company on top of raising three children.

JYJ’s global popularity gets noticed in France

A French media source has reported on JYJ‘s popularity in South America.
On June 27th, the French media source wrote an article titled “K-pop conquers S.America” on JYJ’s global popularity.
The article reported that K-pop idol groups’ addictive lyrics and synchronized dancing have Latin American fans accepting the culture.
It also mentioned JYJ’s world tour, which made stops in Germany, Chile, Peru, and more: “Korean idol group JYJ traveled to Peru on the other side of world, and from Asia, Europe, to South America, they have taken the world by storm.”
“JYJ Membership Week, that will be held today, is estimated to bring in 7,000 Japanese fans, and about 3,500 hotel rooms have been reserved in Seoul.”
On another note, JYJ Membership week has started on June 28th and will continue for four days at SETEC near Hangnyeol Station.

Lee Seung Gi carries Olympic torch in England for 2012 London Olympics

As we reported back in March, actor/singer Lee Seung Gi recently traveled to England to be a torchbearer for the torch relay of the 2012 London Olympics.
As one of main sponsors of the 2012 London Olympics, Korean Conglomerate Samsung reserves the right to recommend a number of torchbearers, and thus, they chose Lee Seung Gi, their endorser for Samsung’s refrigerator line.

Actor/singer Lee Seung Gi is not only the ‘nation’s little brother’ but is now the ‘world’s little brother’.
Recently, a photo that Lee Seung Gi took with his female fans in Poland was uploaded through a foreigner’s Twitter account, along with the tweet, “We took a picture with the handsome and tall Lee Seung Gi.”
In the revealed photo, Lee Seung Gi is seen kindly placing his arms around his five female fans and smiling for the camera at, what seems to be, a Korean restaurant. Because he wasn’t currently filming, Lee Seung Gi was seen without any make-up and wearing just a white top with a black cardigan. SHINee has followed in the footsteps of the Wonder Girls and Big Bang by making an appearance on the Grammy.com website.
A photo of the group with the amazing Donica Streling, who found hope after listening to K-Pop, was featured on their photos section with the caption, “It’s a dream come true for 15-year-old Donica Streling, who meets members of Korean pop band SHINee on June 20 in Seoul, South Korea”.  The terminally ill Donica, who recently traveled to Korea, had an opportunity to receive gifts and take photos with her idols.

To those WonderBang fans out there, it looks like the two groups have made their first appearance together this month, though likely not in the way you imagined.  The Wonder Girls and Big Bang are ranked #1 and #2 respectfully, as “the most viewed, shared and discussed photos on GRAMMY.com right now.”

Seoul ranks in the top ten cities with the most beautiful women

On a list that ranked the cities with the most beautiful women, Seoul came in on 9th place.
On June 21st, an American travel magazine, ‘Travelers Digest,’ released, a list of the top 10 cities where the most beautiful women live.
The news caught the attention of netizens as they saw Seoul takes the 9th spot.  The magazine said, “Seoul has some of the best nightlife and is filled with a lot of beautiful women, truly the best in all of Asia.  They set the trend for the rest of Asia to follow and are in the forefronts in fashion and music.”
Accompanied with this statement was another citing the music and beauty of some of Korea’s top girl groups including the Wonder Girls and T-ara.
Also, Seoul was the only Asian city that was able to make it on the top 10 list.
Netizens who heard the news said, “Seoul is the only city to make the top 10 in cities with beautiful women ~ I am so proud“, “Number 9 on the top 10 list?  Aren’t we number 1?” and “In the example as to why Seoul ranks in the top 10 cities with the most beautiful women they did not use Girl’s Generation.”
First place went to Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.  Regarding Kiev, the magazine wrote, “A visit to Kiev is awe-inspiring and it is hard to believe that women this beautiful exist.”  For those who may not know any Ukrainian women, Mila Kunis is one.

‘Shinhwa Broadcast’ reaches its highest viewer rating yet

jTBC‘s ‘Shinhwa Broadcast‘ has reached its highest viewer rating to date.
On June 24th, AGB Nielson Media Research released the viewer rating for the June 23rd episode of ‘Shinhwa Broadcast’ in which it amassed a rating of 1.87%. As this is a cable TV program, it is considered an impressive feat.
This week’s viewer rating for ‘Shinhwa Broadcast’ also marked the show’s fourth consecutive week of reaching a viewer rating of over 1%. At this rate, could 2% be far off?
The June 2rd episode of ‘Shinhwa Broadcast’ featured ‘Vacation Channel – The God of MT Part 2′ in which the Shinhwa members pulled a hidden camera show against their leader Eric.  Furthermore on this episode, Junjin gave a heartwarming message to Eric after the Shinhwa members finished their hidden camera show.
‘Shinhwa Broadcast’ is a TV program created by the legendary idol group, Shinhwa, who has made a name for themselves in the entertainment industry by staying together as a group for over 14 years.

Lee Hyori tweets her support for ‘Show Me the Money’

Singer Lee Hyori has shown her support for Mnet‘s new program, ‘Show Me the Money‘.
After the program aired its pilot episode on June 22nd, which featured the preliminary rounds, Lee Hyori took to Twitter to show her support for the program.
“I seem to still like hip-hop,” she wrote. “‘Show me The Money’ is so fun to watch’.”
Upon seeing her message, Shin Hyung Kwan, the PD of ‘Show Me the Money’, retweeted the post and wrote, “Ah! Ms. Hyori is also watching ‘Show Me the Money’!”
Hyori replied back with, “Feel free to contact me if you need me, by any chance. I would like to perform together with Illtong,” and the PD wrote, “We’d be honored if you participate! We’ll contact you through PD Kim Hye Young!”
‘Show Me the Money’ is Mnet’s first hip-hop program since 2000-2004′s ‘Hip Hop the Vibe‘. Miryo, Verbal Jint, Garion, Double K, Joosuc, Hoony Hoon, MC Sniper, and 45RPM oversaw the auditions of 1,000 rookie rappers, 21 of whom will be chosen to continue on and compete in the show.
The program airs every Friday at 11PM KST.

Wonder Girl’s Lim keeps Sun’s dog company

Wonder Girl‘s Lim shared a photo of herself with Sun’s pet dog Commong.
Lim tweeted a photo on June 23rd and wrote, “With Commong!  Commong… Still looking for her mom.. Sun. haha!”
Lim displays her lovable smile sitting with Commong on her lap, who looks cute waiting for Sun to come home.

MBC’s variety department in a state of emergency

Due to the continuing effects of the labor strike, broadcast station MBC‘s variety department has been experiencing a crippling downward trend of ratings woes and viewer apathy.
MBC’s trump card, ‘Infinity Challenge‘, is in its 21st week of no new episodes and is stuck airing re-runs for the time being. The latest re-run garnered a measly rating of 4.7%, a far cry from the variety juggernaut which normally gained ratings in the 15-20% range.
However, the news is even worse for other programs. The latest episode of the wedding-variety show ‘We Got Married‘ eked out a 4.5% – lower than even the re-run for ‘Infinity Challenge’, even though ‘We Got Married’ had returned to normal programming.
The current leader in MBC variety is ‘Dancing With the Stars 2‘, with a respectable – if not spectacular – showing of 11.1%. It is the only MBC variety program to record in the double digits within the past week.
Newly-launched programs such as ‘Jewelry House‘, ‘I Am a Singer 2‘, and ‘Muhan Girls‘ are also showing less-than-stellar results, compounding the problems for MBC.
With the current labor strike still going on in full force, it is unknown when operations will return to normal, and if their sagging ratings will go back to pre-strike levels.

Shin Bora discusses her kiss scene with Song Joong Ki + sends a love call to Gong Yoo

Comedienne Shin Bora sat down with reporter Kim Tae Jin for an interview for the June 23rd installment of KBS‘s ‘Entertainment Weekly – Guerilla Date‘
During the interview, Shin Bora was asked about her kiss scene with actor Song Joong Ki on ‘Gag Concert‘ to which she simply replied saying, “Aren’t I good at acting? I liked it.”
Reporter Kim Tae Jin then asked the comedienne who she wishes to invite for the skit, ‘The Discovery of Life’. Shin Bora ended up selecting actor Gong Yoo, who’s currently starring in KBS’s Monday-Tuesday drama, ‘Big‘.
She then sent a love call to the actor saying, “I would like to have an opportunity to improve my acting ability with your help.”
Upon watching the broadcast, viewers left comments such as, “She’s very forward about her love call to Gong Yoo“, “I wonder if he’ll really appear as a guest on the skit“, and “I want to see her acting with Gong Yoo.”

Girls’ Generation’s Yoona disses Taeyeon’s body?

An old video of a hilarious conversation between the members of Girls’ Generation has been becoming popular amongst fans.
In the video, which was taken during a past photoshoot for a fashion brand, Yoona was caught making a hilarious joke on Taeyeon.
While Yoona was checking Taeyeon’s clothes and making sure it looked good for the photoshoot, she jokingly dissed the leader’s body by saying, “So flat“.
Seohyun, who was next to the two, bursted into laughter, while Taeyeon seemed surprised at first by Yoona’s sudden diss but started giggling as well. The video showcased the girls’ close friendship, as they could comfortably make jokes about each other.
After viewing the video, fans commented, “Yoona’s ‘sexual’ joke causes Taeyeon to have a mental breakdown!“, “It seems like the two are really close friends!“, “Know thyself“, and ”I don’t think Yoona should be saying that…”.

Super Junior’s concept for ‘Sexy, Free & Single’ is “Beautiful Males”

Super Junior has been releasing teaser photos of the members for their 6th studio album, ‘Sexy, Free & Single‘ since June 21st without much information on the album’s concept.
On June 24th, it was revealed that Super Junior members are following the theme of “Beautiful Males” in the photos, as they make their drastic image transformation.  Teaser photos of five members have been released so far including: Donghae, Leeteuk, Ryeowook, Shindong, and Yesung.
Ryeowook is seen sporting a very earthy concept in a green cardigan and a headpiece made out of branches, while Shindong has most of his face covered in white and blue chalk. Leeteuk also seems to be following the nature theme as he has a branch-like accessory lining the side of his head. On the other hand, Ryeowook donned only purple accessories. Finally, Donghae displayed a very beautiful and feminine look by wearing a black lace top with a white headpiece.
